Student Safety and Success

Choir is following specific safety rules to allow us to continue to sing during the pandemic. We will wear masks at all times during class, and students will stand 8-9 feet apart when singing in class. 4-5 students will be allowed to sing at a time in class unless we can go outside (weather permitting). While this is not what we are used to, we will continue to follow procedures to keep the students safe.

Hybrid Learning

Choir does not lend itself well to virtual learning, so we have to get creative. Each week students receive a weekly checklist via Google Classroom. While we may not all be working on the same thing at the same time each day, by the end of the week all students will have covered all material on the checklist. This allows for the following things to happen:

  • Warm up and large group instruction

  • Sectionals

  • Individual/Small group work time

  • Group and Individual recording time

  • Time for critique and feedback

Parents can follow their student's progress on google classroom.

Helpful Hints for Virtual Learning

Students will have to mute themselves when singing at home. This is because of the delay from place to place. They should still participate as if we can hear them. This structured practice is still effective and important (even though it might feel strange at first).

Students are asked to make sure that I can see them when they are joining class virtually so that I can see that they are participating.

If you have a family member at home who sleeps during the day, or you are sharing a work space and cannot participate on a specific day or time, students should notify me right away so that  I know why they cannot participate.

As always, please feel free to contact me with questions!
